Be the perfect bridesmaid with our must do and must not do!

Have you ever been a bridesmaid? Is this the first time that you have been asked to take on such an important role in a wedding? Being a bridesmaid is exciting, fun and just a little bit scary. But fear not, we are here to help. If you are worried that you are going to miss something important, or afraid that you will make a huge faux pas. We have put together our guide on how to be the perfect bridesmaid must do not do. Read on to find out how!

Don’t say yes if your heart isn’t in it!

Being a bridesmaid isn’t always easy, especially if the bride has turned into a bit of a bridezilla (not that we would ever tell her that). By agreeing to be a bridesmaid you are signing up to everything wedding until the big day. Not sure that you can dedicate yourself to it? Maybe you shouldn’t accept the offer. After all, being a lacklustre bridesmaid is going to lead to much more heartache than saying no in the first place. Just make sure you are honest with her and let her down gently.

Do budget

Weddings can be expensive, but this suddenly becomes all the more obvious when you become a part of the wedding party. There will be gifts and accessories to buy and, of course, the hen party. All of these things can soon mount up and leave you a little out of pocket. Always make sure that you take into account how much a wedding can cost and you won’t feel the burn so much.

Don’t ignore the bride

If you have a habit of being a little shoddy on keeping in touch, now is the time to buck up your ideas. There is a good chance that the bride will need you to be able to commit to dress fittings, cake testing or simply to share in a moan. If she texts you about wedding related matters, it is your duty to respond, otherwise you could find yourself with one unhappy bride!

Do be supportive

The problems of a bride may sound trivial to those who are not getting married, but to her they are the end of the world. It is your job to be there to listen to all those woes and try your best to soothe her. The wrong shade of flowers may seem like nothing to you, but just put yourself in her place and you can go some way to understanding how she may be feeling.

Don’t be a trouble maker

Chances are that you are not going to like everything about the wedding plans. Maybe you are not a massive fan of the dress, perhaps the hairstyle for the big day isn’t ideal for you? Whatever your quibble, keep it quiet. You may think it is a good idea to speak up, but it isn’t. Just plaster a happy smile on your face and get on with it. It is only one day!

The bride will have thought long and hard about who to share her special day with. If you are lucky enough to be asked to be a bridesmaid, you better appreciate it! It really is an honour to be that loved!
