How to choose your bridesmaids
Picking your bridal party isn’t always as easy as it seems. There is a good chance that you will have several friends and family members that would jump at the chance of being a part of your big day. But how do you know which ones are right? The job of a bridesmaid is an important one, after all, they are there to support and help the bride as much as they can. So, you will want to have ladies around you that you can rely on.
Here are our top tips on how to choose your bridesmaids.
Take your time
Getting engaged is exciting, as is thinking about your wedding plans. The temptation is to rush into asking friends or family if they want to be a part of the big day as your Bridesmaids. You may even find that some of the ladies in your life are volunteering themselves. The best thing to do is to keep a cool head, take your time to think about who you would like to have as your bridesmaids and make a list.
Think about numbers
Once you have numbers you will know a rough idea of how many bridesmaids you want to have. Price up how much it will cost to have the maximum number of bridesmaids, if you can afford this, then go for it, if you can’t then you may have to look at cutting some of the names out.
Think about what you need
The role of a bridesmaid is to be there for the bride every step of the way. So, make sure that you have the right people for the job. You will want someone who you can depend on, that is organised and above all, to be there for you. If you have someone who has a job that takes them away from town for long periods of time, perhaps they are not going to be around as much as you need. If you are okay with this then that’s great, but if you are in need some hand holding, they may not be ideal.
Think about what they need
If you have a bridesmaid who has young children, or who is not great with having all eyes on her, you might want to talk to her first before you give her the pressure of saying yes or no. Let her know that whilst you would love her to be there for you, you will understand if she can’t. You could still make sure that she feels a part of the wedding party, perhaps by giving her a corsage to wear, or an important job to do!
You may not realise it, but bridesmaids can really make or break a wedding day for a bride. They can make sure she is calm, collected and be on standby for any unexpected surprises throughout the day. They can also cause stress and strain that the bride really doesn’t need.
So, think carefully about your bridesmaids and you will be sure to have the right ladies by your side.
