As an Oxfordshire wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful weddings, but there’s something particularly special about weddings held at The Crown Inn Pishill. Nestled in the picturesque village of Henley-On-Thames, this venue offered an enchanting atmosphere for couples looking to celebrate their love in an intimate, serene setting. Unfortunately, The Crown Inn has now closed, but the memories of weddings like Angharad and Gareth’s remain vivid in my mind.

From the moment  this Oxfordshire Wedding Photographer arrived at the venue, I was struck by its timeless beauty. The 400-year-old thatched barn stood as a testament to the venue’s rich history, its rustic charm perfectly complemented by the surrounding gardens. These gardens, full of vibrant wildflowers, were a dream backdrop for any wedding. With a perfect blend of colour and nature, the venue was a stunning setting for Angharad and Gareth’s special day, providing both them and their guests with the perfect space to relax and celebrate.

A Fairy-Tale Start in The Cottage

Before the ceremony began, I had the pleasure of photographing Angharad in The Cottage – a charming former stable block dating back around 200 years. This quaint one-bedroom cottage, situated beside the barn, felt like something straight out of a fairy-tale. It was the ideal place for Angharad to prepare for her big day in a quiet, peaceful space. The Cottage was sweet, cosy, and intimate – truly embodying the essence of a classic country wedding.

Angharad’s preparations in the cottage were filled with smiles, laughter, and the occasional nervous moment. With each step, the anticipation grew, not only for her but also for Gareth, who was about to see his bride for the first time as she walked down the aisle. The nerves were palpable, but that’s completely normal – after all, weddings are an emotional rollercoaster, even for the most confident of couples!

The Ceremony in the Thatched Barn

As Angharad made her way down the aisle, the atmosphere inside the barn was filled with love and anticipation. The barn, with its intimate setting for up to 80 guests, felt warm and welcoming, perfect for a couple like Angharad and Gareth, who wanted to celebrate their union surrounded by their closest family and friends. The rustic beams above, the soft glow of candlelight, and the gentle sounds of nature just outside made this space feel magical.

I could see the emotions running high, particularly in Gareth. As any groom would feel, the nerves were there – and rightly so! But the beauty of a smaller venue like the Crown Inn Pishill is that it allows for a more relaxed, personal experience. There’s no feeling of being overwhelmed by a huge crowd – instead, the ceremony feels like a sacred moment shared with those who matter most.

A Beautiful Garden for Relaxation and Celebration

After the ceremony, guests made their way outside to the secluded Barn Garden, which is one of the venue’s most impressive features. Nestled behind the barn, this tranquil space is the perfect place for guests to unwind, sip drinks, and take in the beauty of the surroundings. The garden catches the afternoon sunlight and is a fantastic location for golden-hour photographs. Tables and seating were thoughtfully placed around the garden, offering a relaxing spot to enjoy the stunning views and the warm summer air.

As the sun began to set, the mood shifted, and guests moved to the front garden. Surrounded by wildflowers, this area felt like an oasis – a serene escape from the busyness of the day. The outdoor space was just steps away from the dance floor in the barn, so guests could easily flow from one area to another, enjoying the music and lively conversation.

A Day to Remember with Exceptional Service

What made this wedding even more special was the incredible team at The Crown Inn Pishill. Chloe, who managed the event, ensured everything ran smoothly and took care of every detail, making sure Angharad and Gareth’s day was as perfect as they’d envisioned. The service was impeccable, with the staff always on hand to assist and provide a seamless experience for everyone.

While the Crown Inn Pishill is no longer open, it remains a cherished memory for couples like Angharad and Gareth. As an Oxfordshire wedding photographer, I had the honour of capturing their day in one of the most beautiful venues I’ve ever had the pleasure of working in.
