How to choose your best man

How to choose your best man

Whilst the bride tackles some of the other choices for your big day, one of the biggest decisions for any groom is who is going to be their best man. Their wing man, their support! Here are some tips on how to choose your best man.

I know some grooms that have found this decision nice and simple. They have a best friend or brother that is ready and waiting to take up the position. But for others the decision may not be quite as easy.

If you are unsure whether to opt for a family member, or perhaps a close friend. Probably the best way to decide how to approach the choice is to look at the different aspects of being a best man and the type of person that is up to the job.

You need someone who is reliable

Taking care of the rings is one of the most important tasks that you will get asked of your groom. You will need someone who is able to be trusted to keep them safe. Not only that, but they will also need to be able to get to the venue on time, and be dressed and ready to go.

They need to be able to organise an amazing stag do

Every best man will need to take charge of your stag do, which means that you need to be able to trust that he will organise an amazing time for you. A good best man not only knows where the party is at, but also what type of night or weekend you will want to have.

It helps if he is funny or at least confident in public speaking

One of the most hotly anticipated moments of any wedding is the best man’s speech. Not everyone is naturally funny, although some men will find this easier than others, what is important is that they are confident enough to be able to stand up in front of people and talk. A shy best man, is never going to deliver a killer speech.

If the man that you really want to ask is going to struggle to make a speech, then why not consider having someone else make the speech, or perhaps ask one or two of your other close friends to speak instead? This takes some of the pressure of the best man.

He needs to be able to get people in the right place

Wedding guests can be pesky creatures! Always wandering off in the wrong direction. Like a suited and booted sheepdog, your best man needs to be able to point your guests in the right direction. Get them onto transport, sitting down in the venue or perhaps gathering round for pictures.

He needs to be able to calm you down

Above everything else, your best man should be someone who can make sure that you feel calm. Even when the nerves and stress are really getting to you. Make sure they will be able to get you to chill, make you laugh or simply remind you how awesome it is to be getting hitched! The biggest job of all!

Have these tips helped you decide on the right person? Make sure you ask them today and let them know just how you think they are right man for the job.
