Capturing the Vibrant Essence of Art4Space: A Branding & Headshot Session
Business Portraits London. At Terence Joseph Photography, we pride ourselves on creating professional, authentic, and engaging images that help businesses tell their stories visually. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with Art4Space, a dynamic and creative organization dedicated to community arts, led by the inspiring Julie Norburn. This session was a special one, as Julie came to us through a glowing recommendation from a previous client who had an amazing experience.
Business Portraits London: Understanding Art4Space’s Needs
Before the shoot, I had a discovery call with Julie to fully understand her vision and requirements. Julie is a thoughtful and proactive leader, juggling multiple ventures, including her consultancy, Julie Norburn, and overseeing a passionate team at Art4Space.
Her goals for this session were clear:
- Professional yet natural staff portraits to update their website and marketing materials.
- Images that showcased the team in action – working, teaching, and collaborating in their creative space.
- A variety of expressions and settings to reflect the vibrancy of Art4Space’s team.
- High-quality, diverse images that could be used across multiple platforms, including social media and annual reports.
Julie emphasized that she did not want posed group shots or event photography, as they already had plenty of those. Instead, she wanted to highlight her team in their everyday work environment, capturing their authenticity and professionalism.
The Photography Session Plan: Business Portraits London Approach
Given the nature of the shoot, we planned a half-day (4-hour) session that covered:
Individual headshots of staff members on a brand-coloured backdrop.
Candid and action shots of staff working at desks, in meetings, and teaching.
Environmental portraits in Art4Space’s creative setting.
A mix of expressions – from warm and welcoming to focused and determined.
Since the team members had different schedules, we coordinated arrival times to ensure a smooth flow throughout the session. Julie also made sure her staff brought two to three outfit options for variety, keeping the shoot fresh and dynamic.
Business Portraits London: The Session Experience
Walking into Art4Space, I was immediately inspired by the vibrant and creative atmosphere. The team was warm, engaged, and excited to be part of the process. The session was designed to be relaxed and efficient, ensuring that each staff member felt comfortable in front of the camera.
We started with headshots, using a backdrop that complemented Art4Space’s brand colours. Each person had multiple shots taken, allowing for a selection that best reflected their personality and role.
Moving beyond traditional headshots, we captured:
Team members collaborating in meetings – showing leadership and teamwork.
Creative professionals in their element – artists teaching, staff curating projects, and moments of hands-on creativity.
Office-based work scenes – staff handling administrative tasks, planning events, and coordinating logistics.
Julie played an active role in guiding the session, ensuring that the images aligned with Art4Space’s branding vision. The atmosphere was lively, with staff members supporting each other, sharing laughs, and feeling empowered in front of the camera.
Delivery & Final Selection
After the session, the best images were carefully selected and professionally edited to enhance their quality while maintaining authenticity. The final delivery included:
8-10 high-quality images per person
A mix of headshots and environmental portraits
Both high-resolution files for printing and web-optimized versions for digital use
Light retouching (stray hair removal, minor touch-ups) to ensure everyone looked their best
The images were delivered digitally, making it easy for Julie and her team to access and use them across different platforms.
Julie’s Reaction
When Julie received the final images, her response was absolutely heartwarming:
“Oh wow, Terence – they are so brilliant. You have really captured our place. Can’t wait to show the staff and start using them. It’s a shame Charlene and Gemma were sick (key peeps in the organization). If we have budget (need to check with Katrine), we might book you in again for a shorter session – 2 staff and some shots of a service in action in the main studio space (would need consent). I will recommend you to others. I love all of the photos.” – Jewels
